Nebaj
Vase planted by Sallie Corbin

“Nebaj is a highland village which has suffered many tragedies as a result of Guatemala’s political turmoil over the past several decades.  From the 1970s through the 1990s, Nebaj was attacked and tortured by their own government where hundreds of innocent civilians were killed and many families fled to live in the forest in hiding.  People lived off scraps of food and whatever could be smuggled out of the forest or eaten off the trees.  Many did not make it although the survival stories are amazing.  I chose this spot to bury the vase in the Mayan mountains, below a telephone wire overlooking the town in hopes that blessings would be sent through the valley.”
