Grand Bassin Lake
Vase planted by Kate Miller and Erik Pricthard, January 2004

“Grand Bassin, the sacred lake of the Hindu people of Mauritius, was where Roma, who carried the Ganges on his back, dropped a splash which became this sacred lake.  The lake gave instant serenity and peace to a bustling day.  We strolled around the waterside where a few were setting out offerings on concrete tables.  It was early and still pretty quiet.  It smelled of incense.  The koi swam around the lake as blue and red dragonflies darted around us.  We found a spot far enough away to escape expansion.  Traveling down a slippery route where hungry misquotes greeted us, we buried the vase underneath a fanned palm overlooking the water.”
