New Columbus, Pennsylvania
Vase planted by Patricia Gessner and Marilyn Cook, October 2, 1999

“The vase was entrusted to us by Kathryn Gessner.  We placed it at the gravesite of Pat Gessner’s grandparents, Cora and Dean Bowman, in the New Columbus cemetery.  We felt that it fit the criteria of ‘place of spiritual importance to the people native to the area.’  New Columbus is in the center of Eastern Pennsylvania, near the Nescopeck and Appalachian mountains.  The cemetery itself is on a mountain and some of the mountains appear barren, a result of logging.

We dug a hole about 2 feet deep and planted the vase, covering it with mums.  As we drove home, Marilyn kept hearing the lyric, ‘Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.'”
